About

Museum Obscura is a podcast which unearths and sheds light upon the smaller museums around the world. You know, that tiny little historical museum tucked away in the older part of town or in a strip mall. They’re places you’d never notice unless you were looking for them. The curators are dedicated individuals. They have collected their subject matter over the years or are passionate about telling an untold story about a time, place or person.

I started this out of curiosity. I noticed so many small museums in my neck of the USA & was curious as to what kept them open. So I went about finding out. One hope is that as you travel the world, head off the beaten path a bit and experience something unique. Before leaving take a look at the Podcast Map page to see which museum(s) you can visit while away from home.

I have a suspicion that these small museums are a dying breed. Over time it may become the case that some may close down as their curators can no longer maintain them and with no one to take their place. I’ll do my best to keep the posts updated, but no promises at this point.
